Infrared Thickness Measurement Equipment
Near-infrared (NIR) light of specific wavelengths is selectively absorbed by C-H bonds in organic materials or H-O bonds in water molecules, and the absorption capacity is positively correlated with the number of molecular bonds in the material. The NIR thickness gauge utilizes this principle by detecting the amount of NIR light absorbed by the material through an NIR photodetector to measure the areal density (thickness) of the material or its moisture content.
Measurement Method: Transmission absorption measurement using near-infrared light.
Measured Physical Quantity: Areal density (basis weight). When the bulk density of the material is relatively consistent, the thickness of the material can be determined by converting the bulk density (areal density = density × thickness).
The NIR thickness gauge offers high measurement accuracy and is minimally affected by changes in the spacing and angle between the probe and the material being measured. It has unique advantages for measuring transparent or semi-transparent organic coatings and is also an ideal method for determining moisture content in materials.
The NIR thickness gauge can simultaneously perform integrated measurements of areal density/thickness and moisture content. This means that a single thickness gauge system can achieve online measurement of both areal density (thickness) and moisture content, truly enabling low investment, high precision, and efficient online measurement.
